When Continuous Coring from surface to depth is needed, ESN uses 48" Soil Samplers. Continuous coring is often
desired so a description of the soil stratigraphy can be obtained in the zones of interest. This can help to
identify the horizontal variations in the soil lithologies, permeability layers, perched water tables, etc.
Shown on the left are the three stages of continuous coring. The first diagram shows the sampler re-entering a hole to the top of a sampling interval after the first four foot core (surface to 4') was recovered. The center picture shows the second core driven from 4' to 8'. The third represents retrieving the second core from the borehole. This is repeated until the desired depth has been bored and the complete continuous core of the soil profile has been generated for logging.
