Prepacked Screen Monitoring Wells are now available for regulated monitoring well applications. The well
screens are constructed of conventional 0.5" to 2.0" diameter, schedule 40 PVC with 0.01" slots. A stainless
steel mesh screen retains the filter pack (20-40 grade sand) around a PVC screen. This well can be installed
through larger diameter probe rod and is completed like a conventional monitoring well (with a bentonite seal
above the sand pack and grouted surface casing).
The Los Angeles Water Quality Control Board and the United States Navy recently approved the use of these wells after comparing them to conventional 4" monitoring wells. (Email to request a technical paper). Conventional well covers can be used to protect the installation.
